As always, Good Luck and Play Responsibly

This is the 12th edition of the Super 5. The Super 5 Record YTD sits at 23-31-1 with a Top Choice record of 6-4-1. Pursuant to the CCHC which started two weeks ago, the Super 5 from Darkseid Sports sits at 5-5, 2-0 Top Choice, 6 Points. 1 point per win, half point per push, 1.5 points per Top Choice win.
The premise of the Super 5 is to release my 5 best positions — which I bet myself with my own money — across College Basketball’s bigger leagues. This competition is (usually) not one for action on smaller leagues. I do this to be better prepared for March. IF I do dip into the lower leagues, it’s to fulfill S5 requirements. Since I am totally excluded publicly in the space, I mirror my results against contestants in the CCHC. If they want to focus on smaller league so be it.
Do you remember?
The complete CCHC standings as of this writing. Some heavy hitter here. What a field.

CBB PRIMER

The big story in College Basketball at this hour is the renaissance of St. John’s. This, on SJU and Rick Pitino, from John Fanta.
A fascinating read on the happenings at UW-Green Bay. A place I know well.
Speaking of the Horzon League, massive respect to Robert Morris. Coincidentally, and my haters lose their minds when I say this but: I am one of the great Horizon League bettors of all time. Nobody is more committed and experienced in that conference currently in the space. That’s just fact.
Why is the East region so much tougher than the others? That’s my reaction. Wow.

RANDOM CBB X POSTS

This post is from a contestant in the CCHC. I agree. What are we doing here? The ACC is way down. The B1G isn’t 11 teams in type good. These extra bids should go to deserving teams in the smaller leagues. The NCAAT consistently makes this error.
Dickie V says Alabama – Tennessee is appointment television for Saturday. I like how he references KenPom.
Don’t expand the NCAAT. It’s perfect.

As I dip into the Horizon League to fulfill Super 5 requirements, it’s a play on the Penguins for me. I’m laying grease on the +2.5.

PENGUINS KEY METRICS:

  • NKU: 9-19 ATS, 6 home losses
  • YSU 127th nationally FT% (NKU 351st)
  • 78th nationally 3PT%/A

In a delicious joust of the SEC upper-class, I’ll back the home Volunteers here.

  • SLU 43rd nationally FG%/A, 85th 3PT%/A

My Futures (National Title winner) portfolio for this CBB season. We’re talking steakhouse visits or pizza parties-level investment. Nothing of supremely major stuff here. If you tail, even if at lesser odds, good luck and play responsibly.

DUKE 9:1

Got in preseason and collected paper tickets from all over. Missed out on 10:1.

If you follow me on X then you know I had plans for Duke. Of course that would include Chip investment.
For CLV context, Duke is +360 at Fanduel AOTW.

TEXAS A&M 55, 60:1

Collected in paper form from January to the recent line move in mid-February.

WISCONSIN 100:1

Collected casually in small increments from early January to the line falling off a cliff last month. I like UW-Madison as much or more than anyone in the B1G.

ADD: VCU 250:1

You want to get weird? Let’s get weird. I like VCU out of the A10 wholesale: 18-8-1 ATS on the year. 13th nationally FG%/A, 38th 3PT%/A…they defend, they rebound (35th nationally T-REB, 20th O-REB) and won’t give up the game (67th AST/TO). It’s a “Beverage Dollars Play” on VCU at a price for me. If you were paying attention, you would know VCU was a part of the Teaser Speical series in last week’s Super 5 publish.

VCU is getting run now in media circles.

IN MEMORIAM

Earlier this week, it was revealed legendary actor Gene Hackman passed away. Superfluous to the details around his death, the focus here is on the acting and on Basketball, Hoosiers was, is and will remain one of the great sports movies ever. It might be thee best ever. The scene where he has the team measure the dimensions of the gym gets me every time. In another genre, Crimson Tide stands the test of time. Just a brilliant actor he was. RIP.
